I always enjoy spending time with Sheriffs Deputy Tempe, her husband, Pastor Hutch, and the many characters living in Bear Creek and on the nearby Indian Reservation. Since I grew up in Oklahoma (Indian Territory -- home of the Five Civilized Tribes -- though I find the term Civilized Tribes insulting) I have learned a lot about Indian history and culture, and Tempes cross-culture world is familiar to me. In this novel, heavy rains and massive flooding isolate Bear Creek, causing disruption in the lives of most in the area, and isolating Tempe from most law-enforcement help while she tries to solve two murders, a string of burglaries, and help her fellow citizens escape from flooded homes, roads, and a mud slide.

What made this novel so strongly memorable is Hurricane Sandy. I was reading RAGING WATER during the time people in the east were living with Sandy, and their own RAGING WATER. WOW!
